East Tennessee Community Foundation supports affected counties

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — In the wake of Hurricane Helene, videos show major roadways destroyed, communities isolated and ongoing searches for dozens of people in East Tennessee.

CEO Keith Barber says the East Tennessee Foundation’s focus is getting the right supplies to the people who need it most.

“We are heartbroken and we know there are people in need, we know there are people in need today, we know there will be people in need in the coming months,” Barber said. “That could be shelter, it could be school supplies, it could be clothing, in some cases we work with nonprofits that distribute food and water.”

The foundation provides grants to local nonprofits and organizations to support them so they can recover and invest in their communities.

“We are once again making sure that nonprofits are vetted before releasing these funds, but we are taking into account anything that might be needed during a disaster,” Barber said.

both East Tennessee Foundation And Community Foundation of Middle Tennesseewill collect donations through Neighbor to Neighbor Disaster Relief Fund.
