Wagner College Theater Stage One presents ‘Daughters of Leda’: How to get Tix

STATEN ISLAND, NY — Wagner College Theater has announced its production of “Leda’s Daughters,” a contemporary retelling of “The Iliad” and “Oesteia,” running Oct. 3, 4, 5 at 7:30 p.m., and Oct. 19. 5, 6, 2:00 p.m., all on Stage One of the Wagner College Theatre.

Following last year’s successful workshop, this engaging production of “Leda’s Daughters” focuses on the lives of the Three Princesses of Sparta: Helen, Clytemnestra and Phoebe. As the young women navigate the complexities of love, loss, revenge, justice and forgiveness, their stories become myth and legend.

“This show is special because it was developed entirely at Wagner College,” said playwright and director Remy Van Collen. “From its first reading in 2020, to its 2021 virtual production, to its 2023 workshop, and now to its 2024 production, ‘Leda’s Daughters’ stands as a testament to the artistry and creativity of Wagner College students.”

For those who don’t know: In Greek mythology, Leda was the Spartan queen who famously gave birth to Zeus’ children after turning into a swan.

Her daughters Helen and Clytemnestra are central figures in Greek lore: Helen, known for her beauty, is often blamed for triggering the Trojan War, while Clytemnestra’s story is filled with themes of betrayal and revenge following the murder of her husband Agamemnon.

The lesser-known character of Phoebe adds a fresh perspective, highlighting the often overlooked voices of women in these legendary narratives. This production explores how their lives intertwined and diverged, turning their personal struggles into immortal legend.
