St. Aloysius watched the lead slip away on Saturday, and the softball season along with it.

Columbia Academy scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning and scored another in the seventh to beat St. Louis in a playoff game in the MAIS Class 5A Southern State tournament. He passed Al.

St. Al (9-15) lost 11-1 to Brookhaven Academy in the first game of the double-elimination tournament and moved into the losers bracket against Columbia.

The Lady Flashes scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead, but Columbia’s Taylor Berard and Macie Wilks put the Lady Cougars back in front with back-to-back RBI singles in the sixth.

Wilks finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs.

Al left two runners on in scoring position in the bottom of the sixth and one in the seventh.

For the Lady Flashes, Madison Spencer finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Megan Theriot was 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Kyleigh Cooper, Ruthie Britton and Madelyn Kavanaugh also scored twice each. Mallory Spencer hit an RBI double in the fourth inning.

Porter’s Chapel Academy’s softball season ended Saturday with two losses in the MAIS Class 3A Southern State tournament.

The Lady Eagles (6-17) went no-hitter in a 15-0 loss to Laurel Christian. Sophie Masterson drew a walk leading into the second inning to account for their only baserunner.

They did slightly better in the elimination match against Newton County Academy but still lost 14-4. Raedon Busby singled to score two runs and score another, and Natalie Cantin tripled to drive in two runs. Kinsley Luke also singled and scored a run.

Tallulah Academy entered the second half of the MAIS Class 2A Southern State tournament on Saturday with two big wins.

Kaylyn Ray doubled twice, scored twice and struck out five to lead Tallulah (12-9-1) on a 19-6 run over Riverdale in its first game.

Halley Hopkins was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Elle Moberley singled, walked twice and scored three runs.

In the winners’ matchup against Claiborne Academy, the Lady Trojans broke the tight game by scoring two goals in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth inning to win 8-1.

Mary Katherine Marsh went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored, and Emily Fortenberry went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Kathleen Ellerbee also went 2-for-2 with two singles, a walk and three runs scored. He had an RBI.

Tallulah Academy advanced to the semifinals of the double-elimination tournament and will face Briarfield Academy at noon on Monday in Sterlington, Louisiana. Championship round starts at 16.00
