Portland bakery reopens after devastating damage from January ice storm

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – A bakery in northeast Portland that was hit hard by January’s ice storm held its grand reopening Saturday.

DB Dessert Company, which has been closed for six months, has officially reopened.

Owner Damala Badon says they have not only rebounded, but are back bigger and better than ever.

“We’re so excited to be launching right now, we’ve launched our wine bar,” Badon said. “We have a wine bar inside the bakery, which is very exciting and now we’re offering even more delicious options. So we’ve got focaccia, pizza, sliders, lots of delicious pastries. So we’re doing a lot of great things with baked goods and offering delicious options that we haven’t had before . Thus, we have a brand new look and a brand new menu.”

Badon celebrated the grand reopening on Saturday with the people he says have supported him through everything and the community he calls home.

“We’re trying to build a brand that represents the community so we can get the community to show up, be here and support us, see it all in our space, enjoy it, have a good time, laugh and smile. That’s what helps us get through everything we’ve been through,” Badon said .

Badon said this day is a reminder that as Portland businesses struggle to stay afloat, resilience is key and being supported in that effort is vital to any brand’s success.

“I want the community and the city to understand how vital and important it is for businesses to stay open, because we see so many people up close every day, and we all feel sad when we see that,” Badon said. “But we need to understand that if we don’t protect these small businesses, they will continue to disappear. So we want to make sure that people keep in mind that they go out and support small businesses to keep them around because we’re the ones that keep the community thriving.
