Boise State women’s volleyball game forfeited, Idaho governor praises decision

The Boise State women’s volleyball team announced Friday that it will forfeit its match against San Jose State on Saturday.

The school did not give a reason for canceling the game in San Jose. Only a brief statement was published on the website.

“Per Mountain West Conference policy, the Conference will record the game as a loss and a loss to Boise State. The Broncos will next compete against Air Force on October 3,” the statement said.

The NCAA is facing a lawsuit over Title IX violations. One of the players on the San Jose State University women’s volleyball team is named as a plaintiff in the lawsuit.

San Jose State University also did not give a reason in its statement to KTVU as to why their opponents lost Saturday’s game.

“We operate our program under both NCAA and Mountain West Conference regulations. Our student-athletes are fully compliant with NCAA rules and regulations. San José State volleyball did not play its scheduled home game against Boise State on Saturday, Sept. 28. Per Mountain West Conference policy, the Conference will play the game conference by conference.” will record it as a loss to Boise State in the game,” the school said.

While neither team provided any details, Idaho Governor Brad Little praised the Boise State team in a tweet for not attending Saturday’s game.

Boise State became the second team to opt out of playing against SJSU. Earlier this month, Southern Utah was participating in the Santa Clara Tournament but only played against two of three opponents and chose not to play against SJSU.

“The Southern Utah University volleyball team has elected to compete in only two non-conference matches this weekend at the Santa Clara Invitational,” the school said in a statement to OutKick at the time.

“The Thunderbirds are eager to make the most of these games and continue building momentum for a successful season. Southern Utah has informed the tournament directors and opposing teams of this decision and we wish them success for the remainder of their respective seasons.”

Boise State is 8-5 overall and 0-1 in the Mountain West Conference.
