Community members and dogs enjoy ‘Tails and Ales’ at Lake Shawnee Bark Park

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Tails and Ales took dog owners out for a nice day with other community members.

While the pups enjoyed the open space and a puppy-eating contest, local residents drank beer and participated in a hot dog-eating contest.

Shawnee County Parks and Recreation says the dog park at Lake Shawnee is the perfect place for people to enjoy the area.

“It’s a really great opportunity to get your pets outside and give them a chance to socialize,” said Darlene Streeter, Recreation Program Manager for Shawnee County Parks and Recreation. “You also get to socialize, get them to do exercises that they wouldn’t be able to do if they didn’t have a big enough backyard or enough kids to play with. “So this is a good chance for everyone to get out and enjoy the weather and enjoy each other’s company.”

Lake Shawnee Bark Park is located on the southwest side of the lake near the volleyball courts.
