Google had to shut down Wear OS 5 update for Pixel Watch

Google’s two previous generation Pixel Watches encountered unsightly problems after the Wear OS 5 update. For this reason, the company has reportedly paused the major software update for the original Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2. Google also confirmed this. 9to5Google today (September 27). According to the post, the company says the software update bricked some users’ devices.

A Google spokesperson told the publication: “…in the meantime, we have paused the rollout of WearOS 5 and are actively working on a solution.”

I have a black screen with the Bluetooth symbol at the bottom and a line across it.” The user went on to say that they lost the swipe function and long pressing the crown to restart/shut down did not work.

A. follow up comment Another user notes that their OG Pixel Watch took about four hours to complete the Wear OS 5 update as of Tuesday, September 24. Following the patch, their devices do not appear to be locked, which is something 9to5 mentioned.

This problem does not occur on every device; but for some, its presence is reason enough for concern.

This development over the past three days is unfortunate considering that older generation Pixel Watch users have been waiting for Wear OS 5 all year. Google crashed Update on September 24It also included the monthly security patch. This was a major patch for devices running OS 3.5 or OS 4 and fixed numerous bugs on older generation devices.

More importantly, Wear OS 5 was the star of the big update. Google teased there were “new features” but didn’t specify that. The post alerted us to updates to the grid view app launcher, camera controls, and Pixel Recorder functionality.

Originally, the Wear OS 5 update was supposed to continue rolling out next week. But with what’s plaguing devices right now, that’s not happening anymore. We can only hope that Google figures out the issue and resolves it quickly. Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 owners currently trying to update their devices won’t find anything.
