Memorial service held for police chaplain who died in Cromwell

CROMWELL, CT (WFSB) – A community is coming together to remember a pastor who impacted the lives of so many.

Earlier this month, Pastor Paul Krampitz was killed in a motorcycle accident that occurred when a vehicle swerved into his lane.

Those who remembered him filled the parking lot near Bethany Lutheran Church. He was very well known in the community for having a little bit of a hand in everything.

Krampitz led the congregation at the church and was also chaplain for the Cromwell fire and police departments, as well as the Connecticut State Police.

He also played in a band and was president of a motorcycle club.

Family friend Sam Rodriguez echoed the common sentiment: He was one of a kind.

“We all knew he was involved in a lot of things, and he was a very, very good man, and it’s a great shame for our community to lose someone like that,” Rodriguez said.

The wake continues until 7pm on Friday night.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bethany Lutheran Church.
