Girls Tennis: Endres scores 50th WDC win – Wadena Pioneer Journal

Wadena-Deer Creek junior Kaylee Endres has had a lot to smile about lately.

The strong player on the Wolverine tennis team since the eighth grade, along with her doubles partner Anna Fiemeyer, defeated Pierz’s Clara Tax and Madelyn Kessler with sets of 6-1, 6-2 on Monday, September 23, and achieved the 50th victory of her career.

Endres and Fiemeyer are 15-1 on the season and have two tournament championships. If we include Endres’ singles play, he has a 19-3 overall record.

Smiles are easy for WDC youth. A hard worker, Endres’ positivity and leadership are two qualities admired by assistant coaches Jil Fiemeyer and Lindy Thompson, as well as his teammates.

“Kaylee is always positive, especially when we are down and need to clear our heads,” Anna Fiemeyer said. he said. “He gives a lot of encouragement to our teammates. He’s a great person.

“He always has fun, whether it’s in practice or in meetings. But while he’s having fun, he also knows how to push the line and push his teammates to help them get better.”

Coaches Fiemeyer and Thompson echoed those sentiments when asked about their young captain.

“He truly stepped into the role of captain with integrity, passion and grace,” Jil Fiemeyer said. “His versatility on the court, whether in singles or doubles, has been impressive, but he has really made strides to become No. 1 in doubles.

“What really stands out most about him is how he has learned to develop a positive mindset that turns self-criticism into the fuel of success. We couldn’t be prouder of what he has accomplished as a teenager, and we know this is just the beginning for him.”

Endres and Fiemeyer added another win to their already impressive resume by defeating Perham’s Aubry Zimmerman and Morgan Smith in an epic three-set match, 3-6, 6-3, 10-7. This win will likely propel Fiemeyer and Endres into the top two spots in the Section 8-1A standings as they look to achieve their ultimate goal of representing their team in the State Class 1A Tennis Tournament.

While Endres has his sights set on the biggest prize at the state tournament, he remains humble about his accomplishments.

“I didn’t really know what was going on (when he got his 50th win),” Endres said. “Everyone was excited and congratulated me. “It was really great.”

When asked about his mentality and leadership, Endres credited his work in wrestling, another sport in which he excels.

“We talk about the ‘eyes up’ mentality, and that really helped me,” Endres said. “I want to be a role model in everything I do and I know that no matter what happens, I need to continue to be positive and work hard so young girls see that too. However they do it, I want them to know that they can continue to work hard and do their best.” They can.”

This year’s Wolverine roster is young and inexperienced, but the young captain is excited about his team and its progress.

“I’m proud of our girls,” Endres said. “Isabelle Lehmkuhl has never played tennis before and is constantly competing and improving. It’s so much fun to be a part of.”

Endres hopes to keep smiling as the Wolverines head into their home opener of the season.

“My goal is to reach state in doubles with Anna,” Endres said.

He is also involved in wrestling at WDC, National Honor Society, student council and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. His parents are Scott and Nicole Endres.

Our newsroom occasionally publishes stories under “staff.” Most often, the signature “staff” is used when rewriting basic news summaries from official sources, such as a city press release about road closures, that require little or no reporting. Sometimes this signature is used when there are many authors in a news story or when the news is created by bringing together previously reported news from various sources. If external sources are used, it is stated in the story.
