Android Circuit is here to remind you of a few of the many Android-related controversies over the past seven days. You can also read our weekly roundup of Apple news here on Forbes..

The Fourth and Last Galaxy S24 is Coming

Samsung has launched the long-awaited fourth model in the Galaxy S24 series. The S24 Fan Edition follows the classic pattern of bringing most of the features from the S24 family, but with some care to keep it down and keep the price down as much as possible. Samsung places great emphasis on the prowess of the camera and associated software:

“Galaxy S24 FE makes it easy for anyone to capture stunning photos and videos. The premium camera setup includes a 12MP ultrawide lens alongside a 50MP wide lens and an 8MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, both supported by optical image stabilization (OIS) lens.” and 10 MP selfie camera. The camera system’s capabilities are further enhanced by Samsung’s dynamic ProVisual Engine, an AI-powered camera engine that takes visual quality to incredible levels.”

One of the critical features of the S24 FE is its seven-year software support window. Compared to other mid-range phones, this bracket length is quite significant and makes the S24 FE an attractive option for those who need a solid phone and don’t plan on buying a new phone every year:

“Samsung is bringing the same level of firmware support to the Galaxy S24 FE as the original three Galaxy S24 models. The Fan Edition model, which starts at $649.99 in the US, is the cheapest Samsung phone eligible for this offer at the time of this writing. Seven years of software update Galaxy “The S24 FE comes with Android 14 and One UI 6.1.1 out of the box, so Android 21 will be its last Android update.”

Galaxy S25 Ultra Camera Details

Meanwhile, next year’s Galaxy S25 attracts attention with the leak of the internal project name. “Paradigm” shows that big changes are expected. If it does, it won’t be in the camera system, which looks set to maintain the same design as the current model:

“The paradigm shift seems unlikely to change the design around the four main lenses; the casing retains the same rough dimensions for the camera lenses. Alongside these cutouts are cutouts for the laser rangefinder and LED flash used for autofocus (which is twice the size of the built-in lens). in the torch).”

Other Choice If You Want Pixels

Although the Pixel 9 family has been a critical success, there are other options available. Forbes writer Janhoi McGregor highlights that if you’re looking for value for money as well as a (former) flagship with high specs, last year’s Pixel 8 pro is one of the best:

“While Google is packing more features into the Pixel 8 series, only the hardware sets these devices apart. Are the Tensor G4’s improved speeds and efficiency, new design, brighter display, and marginal camera upgrades worth potentially spending hundreds of extra dollars? ‘Then you’re on a tight budget There is, no. Also, these differences are only clearly visible if you are testing both phones.”

Google Photos Update

A suite of new editing tools has been added to Google Photos. The three resulting tools include a crop tool, a playback speed adjusters, and an auto-enhance option. Forbes writer Paul Monckton takes a closer look:

“Auto Enhance has been available for photos for a while, but now Google’s one-tap image enhancements have come to video. Tapping the Auto Enhance icon will instantly apply enhancements, from improved colors to image stabilization. You’ll be prompted to save your enhanced video as a copy, preserving the original version.

“This is a good thing because in my experience the “improved” version doesn’t always look better. It can sometimes overcorrect colors, for example by removing some of the warm glow of an open fire and making it look too white.”

Xiaomi Illuminates the Expanding World of Artificial Intelligence

Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi launched its 14T series smartphones this week. Flagship devices tout new AI features. While their use in photography makes the headlines, there’s something a little more interesting for the Android ecosystem further down the spec list: the inclusion of several AI features from Google, from Circle to Search Gemini Nano. After a period of perceived exclusivity with Samsung as well as Pixel devices, Google’s AI platform is expanding.

“Google is pushing Circle to Search as one of the most important AI experiences on Android, but until now the feature was only available on Samsung devices and Google’s own Pixel devices. Today, we’re seeing the first expansion of Circle to Search, the new “It will be available in global versions of Xiaomi 14T, 14T Pro and Xiaomi Mix Flip.”

Snapdragon’s 5th Generation Future

Next month we will see the launch of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, and in the next twelve months we will see the AI-focused chipset feature in many premium devices. Still, Qualcomm is working hard on the design of 2026; as well as undoubtedly manufacturers’ initial plans for the next plus one revolution:

“Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will retain the 2+6 configuration of its predecessor. However, the P cores (codenamed Pegasus) will run at 5.0 GHz, while the E cores will run at 4.0 GHz. This is significantly higher than Snapdragon. 8 Gen 4′ “The P and E cores of the device run at 4.32 GHz and 3.53 GHz respectively.”

And finally…

Balatro, the much-lauded Poker and deck-building mix, has finally arrived on your smartphone. For long-time gamers on Switch or PC, cloud saves are limited to Android devices; From the Developer Team:

“Currently it is not possible to transfer your profile from another platform to mobile. However, this feature is on the roadmap for future updates.”
