Citroen C5 Aircross Max long-term test: covering the kilometers in comfort

This space also comes in handy when I’m on family duties. My youngest daughter is a keen football player who needs regular transportation and my oldest daughter has just finished her first year at university. Going to pick him up and his belongings meant a five-hour round trip, with the car fully loaded on the return leg.

This was also an excellent test of Citroen’s hybrid powertrains. But as in most scenarios, the combination of the 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine and the electric motor met the challenge extremely well.

In my experience, the only time the C5 Aircross feels underpowered is when you need to accelerate quickly from the start. Otherwise, there’s surprisingly strong response in the mid-range and top end, making motorway overtaking easy, and the car cruises really well, even when laden with student stuff.

C5 Aircross, as its name suggests, is a comfort-oriented SUV and has a really soft ride. True, it doesn’t offer much good when you’re craving a slightly more dynamic ride – push it a little hard and you can’t help but notice that classic French body rolling around corners – but for me that’s a price to pay. worth paying.
