Reasons behind Mzansi Magic’s drama series cancellation as Mzansi bids farewell Gqeberha: Empire revealed

Just days after DSTV announced that the drama series would not be returning to our screens after its second run, the real reason for this decision has finally been revealed.

According to the entertainment publication, ZiMojaThe show ended due to low channel ratings. Some netizens felt that they should not have moved on to the second season because their story no longer made sense.

A close source told the entertainment publication that this was due to low ratings as well as alleged mismanagement of funds.

“We were all shocked to learn that some people were misusing the money for their own benefit rather than production,” he added, “With the show not doing so well and the money being misappropriated, they saw no need to continue, especially since nothing was being done. Someone wanted to account for the missing funds.”

News and entertainment broadcast in July, IOLreported that the drama series was filmed in the Eastern Cape and produced by award-winning production company Tshedza Pictures and that it will indeed not be returning.

The source mentioned above states that the channel was informed about the conditions of the cast and that the money was not used correctly.

In response to these allegations, they said: “Mzansi Magic has just become aware of allegations of cast mistreatment, we take such allegations seriously and will be contacting the production company to verify the same.”

General Entertainment’s Multichoice CEO Nomsa Piliso said: “It’s disappointing that there is always negative speculation when a show ends.”
