Rams’ Matthew Stafford Could Make NFL History with Solid Performance Against Bears

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford needs 223 yards to pass Eli Manning for 10th in career passing yards. He could easily pass Manning on Sunday when the Rams face the Chicago Bears in Week 4.

Manning won two Super Bowls and passed for 57,023 yards during his 16-year career with the New York Giants. Stafford is in his 16th season and has passed for 56,801 yards.

“Whenever I hear about guys like Drew Brees, who have done great things in this league for so long, I feel humbled to be in the same breath,” Stafford said. Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times. “That’s why I have so much respect for him and his personality as an actor.”

Stafford now ranks eighth in NFL history for fourth-quarter comebacks after his stellar performance against the San Francisco 49ers. The 36th comeback victory included a fourth-quarter touchdown drive.

“It means your team can count on you in these moments,” Stafford said, before jokingly offering a warning. “They’re not that good either: It means you’re behind; so play better in the first three.

“Football is a fun game sometimes. A great quarter can erase three bad ones. So grab them whenever you can find them. “It’s tough to go out there and play four perfect quarters.”

The 10-point fourth-quarter comeback was made even sweeter when considering the NFC West opponent.

“His patience and ability to just play one play at a time was important and critical to the balance that was reflected,” Rams head coach Sean McVay said of Stafford.

The experienced point guard will face a rookie who has admired him for years. As the Rams head to Chicago, one of Stafford’s biggest fans will become his rival. Bears quarterback Caleb Williams spoke highly of Stafford, and the veteran returned the compliment Wednesday.

“(Caleb Williams) is obviously extremely talented, he makes the plays you see on TV every week and he surprises you.” Stafford said. “As a quarterback, I sit there and say, ‘Man, this is incredible,’ and I’m sure he has plays he wants to get back, like all of us.”

Williams went so far as to say that he tried to emulate Stafford in his own performances. Fans can’t wait to see whether the veteran or the rookie will soon emerge victorious in their first match.
