It’s Hirogami Tearaway meets Mario Odyssey and it looks incredible

Every once in a while, a game comes along that is so spectacular and so artistically bold that you can’t help but stop and admire it for a while. You’ll watch the trailer a few times, add it to your wish list, and hope it arrives soon. Hirogami is one of these games.

Perhaps best described as a mashup of Tearaway and Super Mario Odyssey, the newly announced Hirogami is a gorgeous papercraft game inspired by the world of origami. It’s a 3D action platformer where you play as Hiro, an origami master himself made of origami, as you navigate the world and its platforming challenges, solving puzzles and facing digital enemies.

Take a look for yourself in the trailer below.

You will also be able to transform into different animals and forms, many of which you will see all over the world. The trailer shows off a few of them, including an armadillo that lets you move quickly through the world, a frog that lets you jump to great heights, and a paper airplane that lets you float through the air. There will probably be others, but so far they all look great.

Hirogami is developed by Bandai Namco Studios Singapore and Bandai Namco Studios Malaysia and published by Kakehashi Games, which specializes in “bridging the gap between East and West” by bringing Western indie games to Japan and Asia. And vice versa.

An exact release date has not yet been determined for Hirogami, but it is said to come to PC via Steam in 2025.

We had the opportunity to speak with Hirogami’s lead game designer Yandhie Pratopo ahead of the game’s announcement; They talked to us about the inspiration behind the origami art style, Bandai Namco’s partnership with Kakehashi Games, and whether the game will come to consoles:
