iFixit Teardown Gives a Look Inside the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max

Repair site iFixit earlier this week smashed iPhone 16 And iPhone 16 Also, today iFixit is back with a battery teardown to demonstrate the new battery removal process that uses electricity to remove the adhesive. iPhone 16 Pro and “iPhone 16 Pro” Max.

Apple’s ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ models don’t have the same simplified battery removal process as the ‌iPhone 16‌; Apple instead uses traditional stretch release adhesive for its more expensive iPhones. It’s still easier to get in because you can do it from behind the door. iPhone instead of the screen, which can be easily damaged.

Apple covered the battery of the “iPhone 16 Pro” with metal, as in the “iPhone 16” models, but there is no metal coating around the battery of the “iPhone 16 Pro” Max and it is not clear why. iFixit called the decision to use the metal-clad battery only in the 16 Pro and not the 16 Pro Max “confusing.”

The LiDAR Scanner is more accessible, making repairs easier to access. On previous Pro ‌iPhone‌ models, it was underneath the main camera assembly. The camera modules are almost identical, but they are not fully interchangeable due to different cable lengths and a screw placed in two separate locations inside each model.

Apple moved the mmWave antenna to make room for the Camera Control button, and on the 16 Pro model it’s located in a hollow area near the top of the device. iFixit says the mmWave signal may still suffer due to the titanium frame of the “iPhone 16 Pro” models.

Removing the USB-C port has been “vastly” simplified, but iFixit notes that Apple does not sell replacement USB-C ports. The logic board can also be pulled out by simply removing the top speaker assembly; This is a huge improvement in design.

Notably, the review revealed that the “iPhone 16 Pro” models use the Qualcomm SDX71M modem, which is a special version of the SDX70M modem used in the iPhone 16. iPhone 15 Professional models. Rumors had suggested that the Pro models would include the Qualcomm X75 modem, but this does not appear to be the case.

iFixit gave the “iPhone 16 Pro” models a repairability score of 7 out of 10 due to design changes and availability of repair manuals.
