Community alert issued in Colorado Springs for sexually violent predator

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – A man considered a “sexually violent predator” has registered at a new address in Colorado Springs.

As required by law, the Colorado Springs Police Department released a community notice Thursday sharing details about the convicted felon’s new residence.

The following information was released to the public from CSPD Thursday morning:

In accordance with Colorado law, the Colorado Springs Police Department notifies the community that: Gabriel Samuel Salazar He was released on parole and moved to an address under the jurisdiction of the Colorado Springs Police Department. Salazar is a sex offender whose past behavior led to him being labeled a “Sexually Violent Predator” (SVP) by the Court. Accordingly, the Colorado Springs Police Department made “community notification” as required by law and undertook the following duties, among others:

  • The Division of Criminal Justice Sexual Offender Management Board (SOMB) Reporting Team was notified.
  • Salazar’s residence, employment, access to vehicles, legal status, and past crimes were examined and verified.
  • Notifications were made to neighbors and workplaces thought to be in the immediate vicinity.
  • Patrol personnel were briefed on Salazar’s condition, history, appearance, residence, employment, and vehicles.
  • The surrounding law enforcement officers were informed.
  • An online video has been provided explaining the SVP community notification process, SVP information, and additional resources for the community.

The Police Department will use all reasonable efforts to ensure that Salazar registers as a sex offender and thereby understands his responsibilities.

Salazar’s criminal history reveals that he was convicted of Attempted Sexual Assault on a child in Pueblo County Colorado in 2021, Unlawful Distribution, Manufacture, Distribution or Sale of a Controlled Substance in Denver County in 2023, and Assault 3rd Degree in Las Animas County in 2023 . 2003.

Salazar is registered at 2945 E Las Vegas St in Colorado Springs. He is described as a 40-year-old Hispanic male, 5-foot-11, 260 lbs, with black hair and brown eyes.

Salazar is one of twenty-one “Sexually Violent Predators” currently on file with the Colorado Springs Police Department and living in this community. The Colorado Springs Police Department takes his presence in our community very seriously and is committed to ensuring he acts lawfully and our citizens remain safe and aware.
