Skoda Kylaq Spotted in Near-Production Appearance Before Launch

The sub-4m SUV segment has emerged as one of the most important segments in the Indian automotive industry. This is a segment where OEMs can expect to gain valuable volume as it appeals to a wider audience. Skoda is now entering this segment for the first time and the latest test vehicles appear to be ready for production. Let’s take a look.

Iconic carmaker Skoda is on the verge of diversifying its portfolio in India. Amid falling sales expectations and rumors of a 50% partnership with Mahindra, SAVVIPL (Skoda Auto Volkswagen India) is in choppy waters. An offer below 4 million under the India 2.5 strategy could consolidate their position in the market.

The first vehicle to be launched under the India 2.5 strategy will be none other than the Skoda Kylaq, a sub-4 meter SUV. The company will launch the Skoda Kylaq on November 6 and will take on established players like Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Mahindra XUV3XO, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Renault Kiger and the upcoming Nissan Magnite facelift.

Skoda Kylaq SUV was spotted in an almost production-specific version before the launch. It will be built on the same MQB A0 IN platform that underpins the Skoda Kushaq and Slavia, as well as the Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus. We can see that the Skoda Kylaq has a long wheelbase with very little overhang.

When launched, the Skoda Kylaq will be the first vehicle to feature the company’s new Modern Solid design language. When we look at the spy photos, we can see a split headlight design with LED daytime running lights at the top and headlights below them. These are unlikely to be connected to DRLs to keep cost under control.

We can see a clear silhouette with thick C-Pillars on the sides. The alloy wheels will be 16 inches in size and have a unique design. The side body cladding, fake roof rails and upright hood give the vehicle SUV appeal. The interiors of this upcoming SUV have not been spied yet.

What to expect?

On the inside, we can expect the Skoda Kylaq to have many similarities with other Skoda cars such as the Slavia and Kushaq. While a sunroof will most likely be offered, we hope Skoda will offer features like ventilated seats and a 360-degree camera. It can also score quite high in crash ratings because of its underpinnings.

When it comes to powertrains, Skoda Kylaq will come with Kushaq’s 1.0 L 3-cylinder turbo gasoline engine with 114 hp and 178 Nm, 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter. More details will be announced in the future.
