Windsor parade will take residents on a Taylor Swift-style ‘Eras ​​Tour’ of the town

Whether you’re a Swiftie or not, 43rd annual Windsor Day ParadeAt the event on Saturday, “crowds are likely to chant ‘more’.”

This year’s “Windsor Through the Ages” celebration encourages parade participants to lean into the pop sensation Taylor Swift’s worldwide ‘Eras ​​Tour’ said Hilary Mercieca, the town’s recreation program manager.

“Or they can decorate or dress according to the decade of their choosing,” Mercieca said. “We will embrace them all”

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Windsor High School and end at the Windsor Town Green. Roads along the parade route will be closed starting at 9 a.m.

Roads affected are: Windsor Road from Windsor High School; Windsor River Road to Market Street; Market Street to McClelland Drive; and McClelland Drive past the Town Green towards Windsor Road.

The parade is made possible each year by the Windsor Kiwanis Club, Mercieca said.

Kiwanis Club member and parade co-chair Sherry Rubin said parade attendees should expect the usual ceremonies and entries, including Windsor shuttle and youth clubs.

“That’s what makes this parade so special,” Rubin said. “Almost all of the attendees are from Windsor.”

Rubin said this year’s parade continues the 43-year tradition of awarding two Windsor residents the title of Duke and Duchess of the Year. This year, Chris Hauth and Andrea Nofi will enjoy this honour. Hauth runs a family taekwondo center and Nofi runs a Girl Scout troop leader.

Live music at the end of the walk Red is a band paying tribute to Taylor Swift It will kick off at Windsor Town Green.

“This really ties the theme together,” Mercieca said.

Town Green will host a festival that will include music as well as paid and free children’s activities from 11:30 to 14:00.

Kids can make friendship bracelets, buttons or magnets, courtesy of the Windsor Parks and Recreation Department. The Windsor Education Foundation will also host fundraising stands to increase community support for local Windsor classrooms and teachers.

Summer Nights on the Green patrons will see some of their favorite food vendors on Saturday, including Moxies Frozen Yogurt, Paradise Burgers and Wings, and Good Vibes Lemonade. Churros, empanadas and corn dogs will also be available.

“And don’t forget that all of our downtown restaurants will be open as well,” Mercieca said.
