Disney+ Reveals Details of Fight Against Password Sharing

Disney+ has explained how its ban on password sharing (or what streamers call “paid sharing”) will be enforced and what subscribers should expect.

In a blog post published today titled Disney+ Paid Sharing: What You Need to Know, it was noted that “features and capabilities” that launched in select markets over the summer are now available in the US, Canada, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, with the program expanding this week.

As Netflix and other platforms have followed, the streamer is cracking down on accounts accessed by people who live outside of their primary Disney+ residence. “They will need to sign up and pay for their own subscription or be added as an Additional Member to the main account.

The cost for this is $6.99 per month for a basic Disney+ subscription and $9.99 per month for a premium subscription.

Only one additional slow member is available per account. Additional Member option is not available for Disney bundled subscribers or postpaid subscriber partners.

When someone signs up for their own Disney+ subscription, their profile, viewing history, and settings may transfer.

Account holders will be able to continue watching Disney+ on supported devices. If account holders are on the go and see the message This TV does not appear to be part of the Home for this account“You can mark yourself as AWAY FROM HOME or select UPDATE HOME if you’ve recently moved and need to reset the Home location for your Disney+ subscription. These selections will require a one-time password sent to the email address associated with the account.”

Subscribers are encouraged to visit the Disney+ Help Center for more information.
