Valve hasn’t publicly stated exactly how the game’s MMR system works. However, the community generally assumes that it is hero-based, meaning that a player will have a separate MMR rank for each hero they play. For example, a player may have a high MMR while playing Seven, but a low MMR while playing Paradox. The game’s Discord developers confirmed that Deadlock’s MMR includes hero-based and lane-based elements. One of the developers on Discord, Yoshi, also explained that the team is planning to rework the MMR system because it “isn’t working very well (at the moment).”
