Fix iPhone 16’s fragile Camera Control button with these secret tweaks

New to all iPhone 16 models is a dedicated button for controlling the camera. Camera Control first of all. It’s not just a single-use button, it’s a Camera app launcher, multi-purpose shutter, and feature control with touch sensitivity and haptic feedback.

Newcomers to the iPhone 16 have expressed some frustration with this. While launching the camera app and taking photos works well, it’s a bit difficult to reliably tap the button to open the controls. Swiping to adjust controls is sometimes a bit awkward, and double-tapping to select controls without accidentally taking a photo seems like a test of skill.

Thankfully, there are some very useful settings you can use to tweak how Camera Control works, if you know where to find them. It feels like a joke on Apple’s part that these useful-for-everyone features have been crammed into the Accessibility options for a reason.

Two sets of Camera Control options

Open Settings and tap on it CameraLater Camera Control.

Here you can disable the “Clean Preview” feature that removes the interface when you press the Camera Control button, set the Camera app launch feature to double-click or single-click, and choose the app you want to launch.

But that’s not all there is to Camera Control settings; there are a few other useful tweaks you can make in another menu.

Open Settings, tap Accessibilitythen scroll down and tap Camera Control.

Here are the features you are looking for Really Here you’ll find a variety of options, including independently enabling a light press or full swipe to open controls, adjusting the force required for a light press with three levels of sensitivity, and choosing the speed at which to register a double tap. You can also turn everything off if it’s getting in the way.

We’re not sure why Apple chose to hide these settings in Accessibility, but we suspect it won’t be long before they’re in the Camera settings. But until then, you’ll know where to find them.
