Truck fire, crash at toll booth connecting I-476, PA Turnpike – NBC10 Philadelphia

A truck caught fire in the E-ZPass express lanes of the Mid-County toll booth in Montgomery County on Wednesday morning, causing traffic on the Blue Route to back up.

The tractor-trailer caught fire around 3:40 a.m. in the express lane where the northbound lanes of Interstate 476 meet the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

More than two hours later, the charred truck was still sitting at the northbound express toll booths.

District police officials said that fortunately no one was injured in the accident.

Traffic on I-476 northbound had been forcibly stopped at Exit 20 for some time. But drivers began bypassing the toll booths in at least two lanes shortly before 6 a.m., NBC10 First Alert Traffic reporter Matt DeLucia reported.

It is best to avoid the area if possible until the accident is cleaned up.
