Documentary about fugitive couple Casey and Vicky White to air on Netflix

A documentary about the case of a runaway couple caught in Evansville will begin airing on the following channel: Netflix This week.

Casey White and Vicky White of Alabama made national headlines before their capture in Evansville in 2022. Their story is the subject of “Jailbreak: Love on the Run,” which will premiere on the streaming service on Sept. 25.

The 90-minute documentary features footage of the Whites’ dramatic capture off US Highway 41 on May 9, 2022.

In 2022, Casey was a convicted felon serving a 75-year sentence in Lauderdale County, Alabama. Vicky was a guard who reportedly fell in love with him and helped him escape. The couple were unmarried and unrelated, but they shared a last name.

The couple had been hiding out at Motel 41 for a week, eating pizza and planning their next move, while multiple law enforcement agencies combed the country for any trace of them. Evansville, Vanderburgh County and federal authorities eventually tracked them down to the motel after images of Casey White emerged Standing in the bay of a car wash on the South Side Next to a truck they bought in Tennessee for $6,000.

‘A disgusting love story’

The documentary follows Vicky White, a conservative woman in her mid-50s, as she turns her life upside down to escape with a suspected murderer. “It’s a sick romance,” one interviewee says in the trailer.

Surveillance video showed Casey and Vicky leaving in their spare car: a gray 2007 Cadillac they had bought in town with cash and fake names. And when the Whites left their room and got into the car the afternoon they were caught, authorities followed them as they pulled onto the highway.

The incident quickly escalated into a short car chase, which ended with the Whites speeding into a grassy area outside a nearby business and being struck by a police vehicle. Authorities said Vicky White, 56, shot herself shortly after the collision. She later died at Deaconess Hospital.

Casey was extradited to Alabama and charged with first-degree escape from prison and felony murder in connection with the death of Vicky White. The latter charge was dropped after reaching a plea deal and was eventually sentenced to life imprisonmentCasey White was due to stand trial for the suspected murder of Alabama woman Connie Ridgeway, but the case was put on hold after she was sentenced to life in prison.

“Jailbreak: Love on the Run” is from executive production company Law & Crime in association with The Cut Production, the team behind true crime documentaries about the Boston Marathon bombing and the Waco disaster on Netflix.

The documentary also includes surveillance footage of the couple in the Lauderdale County jail, bodycam footage from Casey’s arrest, intimate phone conversations between the two and a roadside tragedy in Evansville.
