• “Waiting for Life,” a documentary about two men incarcerated at San Quentin performing “Waiting for Godot,” will be screened at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Smith Rafael Film Center, 1118 Fourth St. in San Rafael. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring director Staffan Julén, subjects Donald “Twin” James and Reginald “Happy” Wilson, criminologists Amir Rostami and Jerzy Sarnecki, No More Tears president and co-founder Lonnie Morris, and director of the San Quentin “Godot” performance Ja Jönson. • The 47th annual Italian Film Festival, organized by Marin resident Lido Cantarutti, begins with “One Hundred Sundays” at 5:30 and 8 p.m. Saturday at the Angelico Concert Hall at Dominican University of California, 20 Olive Ave. in San Rafael.
