What You Need to Know About Marvel’s Superman

In This Story

If you follow Marvel’s various productions TV shows And movies last few years, then you may have recently met everyone Lightning* trailerThe upcoming MCU film stars Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova and brings together a host of B-list characters returning from the past. But one character you might not recognize is the mysterious Bob, who’s making his debut. Lightning*So, who is this man and why is he so important?

Bob, played by Best Weapon: MaverickLewis Pullman appears in a few scenes in the trailer, and these scenes make it immediately obvious that he is a comic book character GuardCreated in . 2000 Written by Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee, Sentry is essentially Marvel’s Superman. An indestructible man with powers ranging from super speed to super strength, flight, super sense, and more. If you understand who Superman is, you already know the basics of Sentry. But the character known by his alter ego Robert Reynolds (or Bob!) is more than just a counterpart to the Man of Steel.

The Sentry’s history stretches back into Marvel’s past, before his first appearance. Fantastic Four. Sentry quickly became a hero who befriended big names like the FF, Avengers, Spider-Man, and others. Unlike Superman, whose powers came from his alien origins and Earth’s yellow sun, Sentry gained his powers (as did many Marvel characters) from his failed attempt to recreate the Super Soldier Serum that created Captain America. During his time as a hero, Sentry frequently battled his arch-enemy, the Void, until he realized that the only way to defeat his enemy was to stop using his own powers. This included Sentry erasing all memories of Sentry from the minds of everyone in the universe, including himself.

This is where the original 2000 series begins, with the average Bob Reynolds remembering his past life as a hero, with the universal memory wipe explaining why the Sentry had never appeared before in the lore of the comic book universe, despite having a long history with the rest of Earth’s greatest heroes. One wrinkle in this story, however, is the exact nature of the Void. For a time, it was believed that the Void was a supervillain bent on destroying the Sentry, but over time—oh my!—it becomes clear that the Void is actually a dark personification of Bob.

Picture: surprise

That’s the basic gist of the Sentry’s whole thing, but most of it may not be entirely relevant to his appearance. Lightning*As we see in the trailer, Bob appears to be locked inside a secret government facility. Lightning* enters, unaware of what’s inside. We later see Bob after the government soldiers attack, visibly unharmed despite his clothes being torn by bullet holes. We also see the Sentry’s signature S symbol at one point in the trailer, all but confirming that Lewis Pullman’s Bob is the Sentry.

When you think about it Lightning* Looks like Marvel’s Suicide Squad More than anything—a boring but predictable perspective on the characters—I’m betting that Bob, who is essentially a living superweapon, will serve as a McGuffin in the movie, attempting to control or capture Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine via the Thunderbolts. Naturally, the Thunderbolts will develop a conscience over the course of the movie and will team up with Bob to fight the woman who brought them together in the first place. The Sentry also joined the Dark Avengers in the comics, and if the theory goes Lightning* hinting at a name change for the team, then there’s a good chance that’s what this team will be. First of all, it would be nice to see Lewis Pullman’s take on the character and eventually see Florence Pugh take on the lead role in a Marvel project. Lightning* It is scheduled to be released on May 2, 2025.
