Apple pulls HomePod beta software after devices reportedly break

Yesterday, Apple released a new beta version of its HomePod software. HomePod 18.1 beta 2 was released without any reported new features. However, today Apple pulled the update after some users reported that it was breaking their HomePods.

HomePod 18.1 beta 2 is no longer available

Apple’s HomePod software releases have been lacking in new features for a while now, but the company continues to push out software updates, including HomePod 18.1, which is currently in beta.

The Beta 2 version of the update in question, build number 22J5552d, is no longer available for download for users due to reports that it was causing devices to break.

Users who are using the HomePod beta version can install version 18.1 beta 1, which does not experience the same issue.

But if you’re not running the beta, it’s probably best to avoid using the HomePod beta altogether.

There are no known new features in HomePod 18.1 yet, so the risk of installing beta software won’t be worth it for most people.
