Roku Announces Refresh for Its ‘Ultra’ Streaming Device

Roku released details of its latest product upgrade to its high-end “Ultra” streaming device on Tuesday.

The updated device features a new quad-core processor specifically designed to improve broadcast quality, 4K, HDR10+, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos features, as well as WiFi 6 support.

Roku says the new Ultra runs 30% faster than its other players.

The company said the device has been made even faster with the integration of machine learning, which can predict which app you will open next and make it ready to launch instantly.

Other features include lost remote mode, wireless headphone capabilities, and customizable quick launch shortcuts.

Speaking of remotes, Roku also announced a second version of its Voice Remote Pro, which it plans to sell alongside the Roku Ultra.

In addition to the standard features, the Voice Remote Pro will feature backlit keys, USB charging, and two new keys (quick launch and live TV guide).

Roku also highlighted some major changes to its content recommendations and homepage as part of its broader product upgrade cycle.

Roku has announced that it will be revamping its Roku Mobile App, which previously allowed users to control their televisions without the need for a physical remote.

Now, the remote app will allow users to control their video players, as well as explore personalized content recommendations and read IMDb ratings without having to open a new window.

The app also allows users to add their favorite sports teams even when they are not at home.

Roku has also made minor changes to its home screen, including a “Kids & Family section.”

But if that doesn’t suit your preference, the company has also introduced the ability to like and dislike content, which gives users some control over what the platform continues to recommend.
