Mississippi High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams – Sept. 23

The Mississippi high school football rankings have undergone a major shakeup after a series of surprises in week four.

Louisville overthrew the top ranks Starkville, Madison Ridgeland Academy Beat number 5 Oak Grove And Grenada hammered No. 9 Clinton An exciting list of games for the weekend.

The On3 Massey Ratings — which was officially used during the BCS era and has produced the collegiate high school sports team rankings since 1995 — ranks sports teams by analyzing game results, strength of schedule and win differential.

Previous Ranking: No. 3 (+2)
Madison Central improved to 3-1 on the season by knocking off ranked Northwest Rankin 28-3 last week. It’s been a tough matchup for the Jaguars this year. They entered the season as the state’s No. 2 powerhouse and rose to No. 1 with a win over Ocean Springs in Week 1. Central then fell behind after losing to Brandon, but is back on top in Mississippi. The Jags will play at No. 14 Warren Center This Friday.

Previous Ranking: No. 3
Brandon narrowly escaped Warren Central last week, with the ‘Dawgs leading 29-28. The nail-biting upset came a week after Brandon lost to Clinton 65-62 the week before. Four-star junior cornerback Preston Ashley He is the No. 6 junior in the state according to the On3 Industry Rankings and leads the No. 16 defense in the Magnolia State. Brandon has another tough matchup coming up this week as he travels to No. 12 Gulfport.

Tupelo maintains year-long excellence with 34-10 win OxfordThe match against the Chargers marked the beginning of a tough series of games for the Golden Wave. Houston (Tenn.), No. 17 West Point, No. 1 Madison Central, No. 10 Germantown, No. 16 Clinton and No. 5 Starkville wait in the wings the rest of the way.

Louisville is 4-0 after sneaking past then-No. 1 Starkville in a 42-41 home-court thriller. The Wildcats also have a win over No. 17 West Point, which makes an argument for the best resume in Mississippi. Louisville went a perfect 15-0 last season and tied the record for most championships by any school by winning its 12th state championship. It will aim to continue its title defense this week Noxubee County.

Just after rising to No. 1 in the state, Starkville suffered a heartbreaking 42-41 defeat to Louisville over the weekend. The Yellowjackets lost to Oak Grove in the state championship last season and are looking for another shot at the crown. They will play Oxford this week, it ranks just outside the top 25 in Mississippi.

Madison-Ridgeland bounced back in a big way this week. The Patriots Pulaski Academy (Ark.) came out firing against St. Joseph Catholic. That momentum carried over to last weekend, when Madison-Ridgeland beat then-No. 5 Oak Grove by a shocking 51-13 margin. The Pats are now 5-1 on the season and have the state’s No. 2 offense entering the bye week.

Hartfield Academy remains undefeated after 58-7 win Starkville AcademyThe Hawks have won their last four games by a combined 227-7 margin and will aim to continue that streak on Oct. 4.
