Fink wins top honors at senior event | News, Sports, Jobs

Artie Fink claimed first place in the 50-59 Gross Division in the 2024 Central Counties Senior Championship at Park Hills Golf Club.

Fink shot a 65, while Mike Habovick took second and Todd Homan finished third after a card-off at 68. David Sheetz won the Net Division with a 68, followed by Mike Walker and Habovick.

In the 60-69 Gross Division, Ron Hinish secured first with a 65, Ed Smith took second with a 68, and Al Weyant placed third with a 70. Weyant also won the Net Division with a 67, with Douglas Goss in second and Pete Reifer in the third after a card-off at 70.

In the 70-plus Gross Division, Ken Braniff finished first with a 74, Brady Eckenrode took second with a 76, and Ed Strickler was third with a 77. Howie Lockett won the Net Division with a 71, followed by Wayne Apple and Bill Wolf .

The team of Keith Saleme, Thad McDough, Aaron Harr and JP Stultz won the 2024 Operation Our Town Golf Tournament at the Park Hills. They finished with a 53.

Second-place honors went to the team of Kirk Kissell, Brett Weibley, Brad Houseknecht and Mark Condrin (56). They were followed by the team of Richard Fiore, Todd Homan, John Fiore and Sam Fiore (57).

Huntingdon CC

HUNTINGDON — Two teams went 5-4 this past week during the Big Orange Golf League at the Huntingdon Country Club.

The Bob Lamey-Alan Herbster team, along with the Ed Gargula-Larry Newton team finished tied for first place. The teams of Phil Thompson-Geoff Clarke and Gerry Huggler-Rick Bayer both went 4-5.

Subs for the day were Mike Reese for Thompson, Joe Masciangelo for Clarke and Keith Black for Bayer.

Herbster was the low gross winner (40) while Huggler was the low net winner (33). The shot of the day was turned in by Masciangelo, who made par after a wayward tee shot in the rough on No. 1.

Sylvan Hills

HOLLIDAYSBURG — The team of Steve Long, Don Stubbs, Jeff Vaughn and Nancy Vaughn shot a 32 to win the Member Appreciate Scramble held at the Sylvan Hills Golf Club.

Second-place honors went to the team of Andy Under, Marty Long, Sally Unger and Maddie Shea (34), who won on a card-off with the team of Tom Shea, Brenda Flick, Mary Ann Downing and Sandy Murphy.

In other action, the team of Dayonne Beck, Rosey McCoy and Lorie Steinbauser shot a 32 to win the Putt for Points tournament.

Finishing second (29) was the team of Lou Ann Donlan, Maddie Shea and Evie Monahan.

The Senior Men’s Tournament was won by the team of Andy Unger, Gary Zimmerman, Dan Hegarty and Al Wilkes (32). Taking second on a card-off (33) was the team of Patt Dunn, David Johns, Marty Long and Dick Anderson over the team of Terry Goldstein, Jim Brown, Herb Bolger and Gary Phennicie.

Summit CC

CRESSON — Brady Eckenrode, Bob Ruggiero, Mark Delaney and Eric Macadangdang shot a 57 to win the four-player scramble at Summit Country Club to benefit the GAP/FCU Veteran Community Initiatives of Cambria County.

The top women’s team shot a 67 and was made up of Coleen Brady, Jan Bolton, Debbie Rowan and Susie Wolfhope.

Tim Miller, Bob Ruggerio and Mark Schiffauer won skill prizes.

Hole in one

TYRONE — Lucas Westover made an ace on the par 3 eighth hole from the white tees at Sinking Valley Country Club with a 4-iron.

Vance Kimberly and Ty Stackhouse witnessed the shot.
