JBL’s new party lights sync wirelessly with its glowing speakers

JBL has announced two new accessories for its LED-powered Bluetooth speaker series PartyBox: the PartyLight Stick, which looks like a glowing, animated lightsaber, and the PartyLight Beam, which can project a light show onto walls or ceilings.

$99.95 Party Light Stick and $149.95 Party Light Ray each can function as standalone lights. Using a mobile app, you can adjust the intensity, speed, and movement of each light to match the mood of a party, but both also have built-in microphones to allow their animated light shows to match the music playing in the room.

Both lights become even more capable when connected wirelessly to one of JBL’s PartyBox speakers. Their glowing animations sync with the LEDs on the speakers and to music being played using Bluetooth Auracast—a feature that can broadcast its Bluetooth signal to an unlimited number of other devices. This also means multiple PartyLight Sticks and Beams can be synced to help illuminate a larger area.

JBL says the PartyLight Stick, which uses 183 RGB LEDs, will run for about eight hours on a rechargeable battery, making it easier to place around the room without creating tripping hazards from power cords. It also has an IPX4 splash-proof rating, so it can be used outside, even in the rain, or by the pool as long as it’s not submerged.

The PartyLight Beam pairs three RGB LEDs with four white LEDs, but it does need to be plugged into a wall outlet. This does impose some limitations on where it can be positioned, especially in a room full of entertainment, but the beam throw angle is adjustable so it can be placed close to walls. JBL doesn’t list an IP rating for the Beam, so you’ll want to keep it away from bad weather, fountains, and celebratory champagne sprays.

The JBL PartyLight Stick and PartyLight Beam are now available in both North America and Europe.
