Urgent Update Notification Released for All iPhone 16 Users

Urgent Update Notification Released for All iPhone 16 Users

Apple has just launched the iPhone 16 series. And now, just three days after the phones went on sale, it has released an update for all four models: the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Here’s what we know.

Which iPhones Can Run the New iOS Version?

There are only four: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. If you have a different iPhone, you won’t be affected.

A Small Update

It’s so small that it doesn’t take up much space and doesn’t deserve a new version number like iOS 18.0.1, for example. No, it’s still iOS 18. But while the software that came pre-installed on iPhones was iOS 18.0 with build number 22A3351, the new update has a slightly higher build number: iOS 18.0: 22A3351.

“This update provides important bug fixes and security updates for iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max,” Apple’s notes read.

It’s a small update, measuring 466.4MB and downloading in about 13 minutes on my iPhone 16 Pro.

The notes continue: “For information about the security content of Apple software updates, please visit the following website: support.apple.com/100100.”

As is common with these releases, there are no new details on the site regarding security issues beyond what was outlined in the original iOS 18 release. This is normal, as Apple wants updates to be downloaded and installed before it reveals its hand; after all, if Apple discloses the issues before many people have the update installed on their phones, it potentially leaves some users vulnerable.

Despite significant pre-orders and sales of the new iPhones, perhaps signaling a new supercycle, the number of iPhones in customer hands is still relatively small, and Apple will now work to update its stock to the latest version number.

There have been reports of some users experiencing touch issues and missed taps, but while these were initially thought to only apply to iPhone 16 models, it now appears that earlier models are affected as well. It’s not known if the numbers are significant or if this update addresses this, but there’s no mention of it in the notes.

We have more.
