iOS 18 significantly improves battery life on iPhones

A recent test has revealed that the new iOS 18 update has brought a surprising increase in battery life for the iPhone 15 Pro models. This test, conducted by a well-known Chinese blogger, GeekerwanThe software update shows how much real-world usage has been improved. The iPhone 15 Pro Max in particular shows an impressive gain, running for over an hour longer compared to iOS 17.

Test Results: iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max

The test included a variety of activities to determine how the battery would perform. These included texting, web browsing, video calling, and gaming. The iPhone 15 Pro’s battery life increased from 6 hours and 22 minutes to 6 hours and 55 minutes with iOS 18. But the bigger surprise came with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which went from 7 hours and 56 minutes to 9 hours and 2 minutes.

The main reason for this battery boost appears to be related to how iOS 18 manages the A17 Pro chip. This new system better controls the chip’s performance and efficiency cores, delaying the increase in core speed and, in turn, saving power during shorter tasks. There have been previous hints from Apple about “extended energy management” in iOS 18. However, the company didn’t provide any specific details at the official launch.

The test also looked at the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro Max, which holds the record with a battery life of 10 hours and 23 minutes. No other iPhone has ever lasted that long in this type of test. Other models in the iPhone 16 series also performed well, with the 16 Plus reaching 10 hours, while the 16 Pro got about 8.5 hours. These gains are partly due to the larger batteries in the iPhone 16 family.

While these tests don’t exactly match real-world usage, they do provide strong indications that battery life is improving. For iPhone users, especially those with older models, the iOS 18 update is a welcome improvement. While individual results will vary, the software appears to offer a significant increase in overall power efficiency, making iOS 18 a must-have update for those looking to extend the battery life of their phones.
