Western Reservoir Hospice breaks ground on center

Western Reserve HospiceHospice, a community-based nonprofit organization, broke official ground on its new Hospice Care and Community Center on September 18.

Located on Lake Shore Boulevard in Cleveland’s North Collinwood neighborhood, the state-of-the-art facility is part of the organization’s $18 million investment Quality of Life capital campaignAccording to a press release.

The care center will be built on land currently owned by Hospice of the Western Reserve, on a lakefront property adjacent to the Hospice House on East 185th Street. It will replace the Hospice House, which has served Northern Ohio for nearly 30 years.

This project continues Hospice of the Western Reserve’s mission to ensure that every member of the community can experience quality of life at the end of life, the announcement said. The new center, which has raised more than $15 million to date, aims to enhance the organization’s ability to provide critical services, create more efficient care environments and support evolving health care needs.

The statement noted that the groundbreaking ceremony comes on the heels of the agency’s response to recent tornadoes in Northeast Ohio, where acute care inpatient units play a vital role in providing continued, high-quality care to patients amid widespread outages.

The new facility, expected to open in 2026, will feature 32 private patient rooms, each with a view of Lake Erie, enhanced family spaces and state-of-the-art technology to support the increasingly complex nature of end-of-life care, the statement said.

The Community Center, located within the facility, will also offer grief support services and host events for patients and their families, providing a space for healing and bonding.

“This new center continues our commitment to compassionate care, ensuring we meet the needs of future generations of patients and their families,” said William E. Finn, President and CEO of Hospice of the Western Reserve, in a press release.
