VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. β€” A thief stole $7,000 worth of jewelry from Positive Vibes Books & Accessories, a longtime book and accessory store in Virginia Beach.

“He went right to the gold display case, broke the glass and grabbed all the gold chains. Then he grabbed a couple of silver chains on his way out,” said Brett Hewitt, owner of Positive Vibes Books & Accessories.

Hewitt said he recognized the man from surveillance video a few weeks ago of him buying jewelry with a stolen credit card.

“He was here. That’s how he knew how to get to the bottom. He was a customer who came in here and committed credit card fraud,” Hewitt said.

The owner of Tidewater Skate Shop, not far from Indian River Road, said the same man came to his shop.

“He went and picked out the best quality stuff and made a transaction. When I tried to take his credit card out, he wouldn’t take it. It’s a stolen card,” said Owen Rayfield, owner of Tidewater Skate Shop.

He says the stolen credit card led to a chargeback.

“I got a letter in the mail from a credit card company saying they were going to charge me $475 for that transaction,” Rayfield said.

Virginia Beach police say they are investigating theft and pickpocketing. The man has not yet been caught.
