Don’t look now — near-record temperatures in Kamloops raise fire danger ratings

KAMLOOPS — With record temperatures hitting the BC Interior heading into the weekend, the BC Forest Fire Service is warning residents that the fire danger rating has risen again.

“Our fire danger rating (at Kamloops Fire Station) is currently moderate, with some areas being high,” said Fire Information Officer Olive Norris-Leite CFJC Today“We’ve seen the warm, dry weather return and still have some dry conditions out there.”

The high temperature in Kamloops reached 33.1 degrees Celsius at 5 p.m. Thursday, just two degrees lower than Kamloops’ previous record set in 1955 on Sept. 5, according to Environment Canada.

Weather forecasters predict that the maximum temperature on Friday will be 35 degrees.
