James Gunn Reveals How CREATURE COMMANDOS Will Launch New DC Universe + First Look Photos — GeekTyrant

James Gunn He’s currently involved in a number of different projects as he continues to change the DC Universe and (hopefully) steer it in a more exciting and successful direction.

We know you’re working on it Supermanthe first film in the new DC era that fans are so excited about, but it’s actually the second project to come out of the DC universe. The first will be this year’s new animated adult series, Creature Commandosand Gunn has released the first details about the project for us.

Gunn sat down Entertainment Weekly To explain:

“What I always loved about DC Comics was that you always had mainstream comics coming out, but also tonally different comics. Watchmen And The Dark Knight Returns And All Star Superman.

“It was different from Marvel in that respect. That’s something I really wanted to preserve at the studio, that every project would bring a different vision from the artists who created it.”

So next year Superman The film will be a superhero epic for people of all ages, Creature Commandos A story about scary characters struggling with their dark pasts.

The show features a variety of characters, both familiar and strange – Frankenstein (David Port), Bride of Frankenstein (Indira Varma), Doctor Phosphorus (Alan Tudyk), fish-like Nina Mazursky (Zoe Chao), Weasel and GI Robot (both Sean Gunn) — sent on dangerous missions by government official Amanda Waller (Viola Davisrepeating the role Suicide Squad (movies) and Rick Flag, Sr. (Frank Grillo).

Audiences will not only be excited about Gunn’s 2021 DC superhero film, Suicide Squadbut also his Guardians of the Galaxy Trilogy for Marvel. Gunn said:

“I’m used to dealing with oddballs, irregulars, and weird people. That’s why Guardians And Creature Commandos It’s kind of like this Guardians far from sentimentality.

Guardians are all essentially good characters, and this is not the case with creatures.”

Creature Commandos will feature both Frankenstein and the Bride, but don’t expect to see them skulking around or grunting. Gunn is based on Mary Shelley’s original novel Frankenstein It was a milestone in terms of characterization, more so than the classic Universal horror films starring Boris Karloff (who, of course, loves those too).

“One of the fun parts for me was taking some of the key elements of Mary Shelley’s story and incorporating them into this story about the rejected relationship between the Bride and Frankenstein.

“Frankenstein is an incredibly eloquent intellectual, and yet he is driven by his anger and his resentment and his inability to truly be human and the fact that the person he loves does not love him back. That is what drives him.”

However Creature Commandos it’s also filled with lesser-known faces like GI Robot. Each episode of the series, after the initial setup, will dive into the past and pain of a different character.

What could be more complicated than a fighting robot? Well, we’ll find out.

“There’s an innocence to GI Robot that I didn’t realize until Sean got in the booth and started creating this character. The choices he made for GI Robot give the character this sweet, mechanical innocence. He has a very sad history dating back to World War II.

I think the only time he felt at home was with the soldiers he was serving with in DC’s World War II alternate history, which included metahumans.”

Gunn spoke to EW Creature Commandos from the cluster Peace ambassador Working on season 2 and also post-production for next year SupermanHe sees this series as a perfect start to what’s to come from DC.

Superman It’s the real beginning of everything, it’s a huge epic. It’s a way for people to just take a little bite and see what it’s like.

“There are a lot of fun references to other DC stuff, a lot of hints at things to come. So I think it’s a tremendously fun way to start.”

Creature Commandos It premieres on Max on December 5th. Are you eagerly awaiting the series? Check out new photos from the series above and below:
