Astro Bot’s Metacritic Score Makes It a Game of the Year Candidate

A question that has been floating around among video game developers for the past few years is, “What kind of games do we make that appeal to people and make the most money?” Unfortunately, that question has been answered in a variety of ways depending on who asks it and by whom. This has led to a huge divide between those who prefer to make single-player assets and those who think live service games or games with large amounts of microtransactions are the way to go. For Sony, the week Astrobot comments.

You see, they were trying to push themselves more into the live service phase, and they released two games in the last year, both exclusives, that were meant to capture that market. However, not only did both of those games fail, one was shut down in just 11 days. Then, today, the reviews for the single-player exclusive dropped, Astrobotand it’s being hailed not only as one of the best platformers ever, but also as a Game of the Year candidate. Reviews are full of praise for the game, with many receiving perfect scores due to the content in the game. Some reviews state that they “couldn’t pass up” the chance to play this game because of how much fun it is on PlayStation. Others state that the game is a true “love letter” to past Sony games, while also standing out on its own. Some even state that the game could have been just as good if it had taken out all the Sony references! It shows how detailed and amazing the design is.

It also helps that the game feels beautiful to look at and fun to play. Even though the title itself is 15 hours long at most, reviewers didn’t mind at all! They were happy with the time, as they had a lot of fun for 15 hours.

Some even praised the game, comparing it to epic platformers featuring Mario! That’s some real praise!

The irony, as we touched on at the beginning of the article, is that this game is likely to do incredibly well and win a bunch of awards… and it’s a fun little single-player game with no microtransactions or live service elements. Take note, Sony.
