Motorcyclist dies in Interstate 55 crash in East St. Louis; highway closed for hours, police say

A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a tractor-trailer Wednesday afternoon, and southbound Interstate 55 in East St. Louis was closed for several hours for the investigation. That’s what the Illinois State Police said.

The victim’s name has not yet been released.

The crash happened around 12:17 p.m. in the 1-mile marker of southbound I-55, north of Illinois 3, according to Illinois State Police.

All lanes reopened at 4:40 p.m., state police said.

No other information was shared.

This was the second fatal accident Wednesday on I-55 in the metro-east. A Troy woman died in a three-vehicle crash at 4:14 a.m. in Madison County.
