Neville requests a ‘meeting’ that only players can attend; Under sack threat, Ten Hag needs to ‘stop’ something from the ‘source’

Gary Neville thinks his Manchester United side should have a “meeting” without Erik ten Hag after their “dismal” performance against Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester Utd Neville was angered by their 3-0 defeat to Spurs at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. While Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke were on the scoresheet, Bruno Fernandes received a red card for the home team.

Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has surprisingly chosen to remain loyal Ten Witches They finished eighth in the Premier League in the summer. Their victory against Manchester City in the FA Cup final saved his job by extending his contract until 2026.

However, Ten Hag is already under huge pressure with the Red Devils losing three of their first six Premier League matches of the 2024/25 season. He is among the favorites to be the first coach to be sacked this season.

Speaking after the match, former Manchester Utd star Ashley Young called on his former club to “hold a meeting to sort out what went wrong”.

“I think today showed that the two wingers are going one-on-one and opting to turn back and play a safe pass rather than attacking the area in behind. “You’ve got a winger who doesn’t have any confidence,” Young said.

“When you’ve been here before as a winger, your eyes shine when you see one-on-one, it’s your time to shine.

“When players don’t do it, don’t turn it down and want to go backwards, that’s not the way to do it.

“This is one of those things. They will need to have a meeting among themselves and figure out what went wrong.

Meanwhile, Neville thinks Ten Hag “should check his friends’ dressing room.”

“I would probably recommend the players go and have a meeting tomorrow morning without the manager,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“They have to decide first what they want to do and Erik ten Hag has a lot of friends in the dressing room who have worked with him before at other clubs. “They need to get a grip on the dressing room very quickly because it didn’t look that good out there in the first half today.”

Neville also recognizes that Man Utd need to keep up the results and performance against Spurs “pretty quickly”.

“I’ve been around Man Utd enough over the last 10-12 years to know that a game like this and a result needs to be turned around quickly,” Neville added.

“The snowball starts rolling down that hill and gets faster. Erik ten Hag needs to stop this at the source because this is a shocking day, a sobering day.

“I said right before the game there can be no excuses. The players are all fit. Luke Shaw is the only player you can think of coming into this team. A mountain of money was spent and invested. The first half, as bad as it was, was absolutely harrowing.”
