Today’s Connections answer — tips to help you solve the problem

The difficulty level of each category is represented by a color; yellow is the easiest to group and purple is the most challenging. Answers will be revealed when you make 4 mistakes in your predictions, so hints can be useful.

So, what are today’s Connections answers for game number 477?

Drum roll please…

Today’s puzzle came together easily enough. Coming from the yellow category, I first saw Poach and thought it might have something to do with the different ways to make eggs, but when I saw Blanch, Boil and Steam I realized the Connections Team had prepared a bigger night than that.

Then came the green category; When I reviewed what I remember from high school English class about what Ambergris is here, I found it easy to make connections with other scented clues like Musk, Rose, and Vanilla.

The only celebrity that immediately came to mind was Wallace, of Wallace and Gromit fame, but for some reason my brain immediately went to “celebrity duos” rather than the more obvious “dog characters”. Shaggy was the obvious choice, but it took me a second to realize I’d climbed the wrong tree before swooping down on Dorothy and Charlie.

Finally, today’s memorization filler is the purple category. I always make mistakes in pun categories, and today was no different.

Yesterday’s difficulty level of 4.5 started things off on a scary note, but I managed to get right into the green category with blanket, dummy, sheet and throw.

Then came the purple category, which took me to great heights. At first I thought honor and justice might be related, but with no other clues pointing to positions in the field, my news junkie senses kicked in and selected energy, labor, and state as other federal departments besides justice.

After that came yellow, the easiest category; fulfilling, honoring, protecting and supporting.

Since only blue remained as the rote filler, I was still able to guess the connection with all the clues about the card games. Having easily solved one of the toughest puzzles we’ve seen so far, it will be a shame to inevitably stumble upon easier ones.
