Traffic jam occurred on the highway due to trailer leaving refrigerators on the road

A highway was closed to traffic this afternoon after a trailer resembling large refrigerators spilled its cargo.

Traffic was stopped on the northbound M5 near Junction 11 in Gloucestershire, causing delays of up to 45 minutes and six miles of traffic jams.

The debris was moved to allow single lane traffic and the South West National Highways confirmed recovery efforts were organised.

Footage from the scene shows a large 4×4 carrying a trailer that appears to have been smashed, with debris strewn across the main road.
