Jack Draper retires with injury after receiving on-field treatment during Japan Open quarter-final | Tennis | Sport

British No.1 Jack Draper was forced to withdraw from his Japan Open quarter-final match against Frenchman Ugo Humbert due to an apparent abdominal problem.

Despite receiving treatment on the field and trying to continue, Draper eventually withdrew, trailing 7-5 to 2-1.

The 22-year-old was competing in his first ATP Tour tournament since reaching the semi-finals of the US Open earlier this month.

World number 19 Humbert will now face Czech player Tomas Machac in the semi-finals.

While the start of the match was postponed for a short time due to rain, both players left the field due to the roof being closed.

After a series of breaks in the opening matches, Draper sought medical attention but was unable to continue and eventually conceded the match.

Draper was also playing in the doubles competition with Machac, with whom he would play in the singles semifinals in the same tournament.

However, the duo had to give their semi-final opponents, Ariel Behar and Robert Galloway, the right to advance directly to the final.
