The USA team won their four-ball match on Thursday. The International Team then drew 5-5 in Friday’s round four. This pointed out first Throughout the history of the tournament, fans have been treated to a back-to-back sweep.

This also leaves both teams at risk in Saturday’s two-round match. A team needs 15.5 points to win the President’s Cup, meaning no team can win before Sunday’s 12 individual matches. But a big day could put the team in a very advantageous position.

That big day belonged to the Americans, who won six of the eight matches and entered the final day with a four-point lead.

Let’s take a look at how events developed on Saturday.

Scott won the record on Friday while playing alongside Pendrith.

Saturday’s opener was a tight contest and another clear sign that both Furyk and Weir will rely on their best golfers throughout the weekend.

Xander Schauffele, the world’s No. 2 golfer, paired with Tony Finau to face Corey Conners and Mackenzie Hughes in Saturday’s second match. Schauffele and Finau won 3&2.

Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns secured the USA’s lead into the afternoon by beating Hideki Matsuyama and Sungjae Im 2&1 in the last four-ball match. It was an interesting turnaround after Cantlay and Schauffele were defeated by Matsuyama and Im 7&6 in Friday’s four-way match.

Cantlay’s Eagle at number 12 played a big role in giving the US team the advantage. This also spoiled Im’s five-birdie performance.

However, there would be no screening in the morning. In the third match, Si Woo Kim and Tom Kim put the International Team back on the board by beating Keegan Bradley and Wyndham Clark 4&3.

Kim and Kim played a tremendous match while maintaining the level of energy and momentum for the International Team.

He and Kim met again in the afternoon as the action turned into a four-way game. In fact, Weir decided to keep all four matchups from Round 3 in Round 4.

It was certainly an unexpected decision after losing three of the morning’s four matches. But he may be confident in his team’s success in the four-way format on Friday.

Things did not go as Weir predicted.

Scott and Pendrith got the International Team off to a good start in the afternoon, winning their match against Brian Harman and Max Homa by two lengths. Another impressive outing from Scott helped make up for Pendrith’s less-than-stellar performance.

However, late in the second game, the momentum shifted to the Americans. Conners and Hughes were tied as Morikawa and Burns went into the final hole. A draw in the match would have earned both teams half a point, but the deadlock did not continue.

Conners came up short on a cross attempt, which ultimately cost his team the hole and the match.

It wasn’t all bad for the international team. Kim and Kim edged Schauffele and Cantlay by one, while Si Woo Kim hit an improbable scree shot to earn a birdie and tie the score again.

But Cantlay’s clutch birdie putt from No. 18 turned a potential tie into another win for Team USA.

The excitement of the entire American team was palpable after Cantlay’s shot. For them it was an exciting end to another strong day.

Just before Cantlay hit the final shot of the night, Scheffler and Russell Henley mounted an epic comeback, eventually breaking away from Matsuyama and Im to earn a 3&2 victory.

Matsuyama and I were at the top of the tree after six holes, but something went wrong for Scheffler and Henley, who were in complete control from then on. Their win allowed Team USA to enter Sunday with the lead.

Cantlay’s shot made it a pretty big one.

Team USA is in prime position to win its 10th consecutive Presidents Cup with an 11-7 advantage. With four of the top six golfers according to the World Golf Rankings, the Americans should have the advantage in heads-up.

Team USA needs just 4.5 points to clinch the tournament. Four wins and a draw from 12 matches will take care of this, but the skill and effort we have seen from the International Team suggests it will be another challenging series on Sunday.
