One person seriously injured after being struck by construction trailer on closed road in Buchanan

BUCHANAN, Wisconsin (WBAY) – A person was taken to a trauma center after crashing into a construction trailer on the closed section of County Trunk KK in Buchanan Township.

Just before 8 p.m. Friday, Combined Locks Fire and Rescue, Buchanan Township Fire and Rescue, Gold Cross Ambulance and Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to County Trunk KK east of Harwood Road, Buchanan Township, for a report of a crash . .

A deputy at the scene told first responders that they had to use the teeth of life to free the driver from the vehicle. Firefighters and emergency services teams arrived at the scene and started a long effort to dismantle the vehicle and remove the driver.

Since there was no helicopter to transport the driver, the seriously injured were taken to the trauma center by land ambulance. No further information was given about the driver’s condition.

Initial investigation revealed that the driver had driven through a “Road Closed” barricade onto a portion of County Trunk KK that was closed for a bridge replacement project. The driver then crashed into a large construction trailer at high speed.

The investigation is still ongoing and is being handled by the Calumet County Sheriff’s Office.
