Here’s what we know about curfews in Richmond, Columbia and Aiken counties

Columbia County recently declared a curfew for Columbia County residents starting Saturday night following Tropical Storm Helene’s devastation in the Augusta area.

Columbia County leaders are imposing a curfew for all Columbia County residents that will last from 8 p.m. Saturday night until 8 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release.

“(This) decision comes as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of our community during ongoing efforts with community partners to remove debris, downed trees, and downed power lines from major thoroughfares throughout the county,” according to the release. .

During the curfew, all residents must stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary, according to the statement.

The state did not say what made the trip “absolutely necessary.”

“This temporary restriction is intended to minimize the risks associated with hazardous conditions and allows emergency responders to effectively manage and respond to any emergency,” according to the statement. “We know curfews can be inconvenient, but the safety of our residents is our top priority. We urge everyone to comply with this curfew to help us protect our community and first responders and ensure we can quickly respond to emergencies that may arise.”

Richmond County declared a curfew on Saturday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. that will be active until further notice, The Chronicle reported. Aiken County also has a curfew between 7:30pm and 7:30am. Essential employees and responders for local businesses/services are exempt from this ban.
