Dallas residents Scottie Scheffler and Tom Kim go viral at Presidents Cup: ‘What was that?!’

Trash talk? Friendly joke?

Whatever it is, Scottie Scheffler and his friend Tom Kim, who lives in Dallas, had a viral moment during their Presidents Cup opener on Thursday.

Scheffler and Kim, who are good friends and play together frequently in Dallas, lit the competitive fire on the par-3 seventh hole.

Kim took a shot from about 30 feet, showed off a bit, and said, “Let’s go!” he shouted.

However, Kim spoke too early as Scheffler had not yet tried his shot. Scheffler matched the shot from a similar distance, turned to Kim and said, “What was that!?” he shouted.

Things moved to the next hole when Kim and teammate Sungjae Im continued the antics. Kim smoked another birdie putt, the two celebrated vigorously and walked to the next tee box without watching Scheffler putt.

If you’re not familiar with golf etiquette, this is extremely standard courtesy, especially at the professional level.

“It’s the same thing I would have done at home if he had batted… and that’s how he celebrated. So it’s all in good fun. “We enjoy competing against each other,” Scheffler said. “That’s the situation here. It’s a lot of fun to compete, it’s a lot of fun to represent our country, and at the end of the match you take off your hat and shake hands.

“I guess we’re friends after, but not friends during.”

The Americans swept all five games.
