Orange County’s strength in high school aquatics continues to shine on the international stage almost two months after the Paris Olympics ended.

Former Edison standout water polo player Alys Moore (formerly Alys Williams) recently made her debut as a head coach in the United States by leading the women’s national youth team to fourth place at the Under-18 World Aquatics Championships in China.

In the bronze medal match, the USA squad lost to Hungary, 14-13. Spain won the gold medal by beating Greece 11-9.

Orange Lutheran’s young player Allison Cohen was among the Americans who completed the tournament 4-2. All County attacker He scored 14 goals in the tournament; seven of these were in the 16-14 win over Australia in group play.

Newport Harbor senior Harper Price, another All-County selection last winter, was also part of the USA squad.

In swimming, Teagan O’Dell of Santa Margarita placed first in the 200 individual medley and placed second in the 200 backstroke at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Australia last month.

The senior, who has committed to Cal, completed the 200 IM in a life-best 2 minutes, 11.57 seconds; That would have placed him fifth at the U.S. Olympic Trials earlier in the summer.

O’Dell clocked 2:08.31 in the 200 backstroke.

He also helped Team USA win gold in the 400 and 800 freestyle relays.

Earlier this month, the three-time Register OC girls swimmer of the Year was named to the U.S. junior national team in five events: 100 and 200 backstroke, 200 and 400 IM, and 200 freestyle.

In Paris, Register male athlete of the year JSerra’s Ryder Dodd helped the U.S. men’s water polo team win a bronze medal. This effort came just a few months after Dodd graduated from high school.
