Ghost of Yotei is the sequel to 2020’s Ghost of Tsushima

Of yesterday Playstation State of Play has revealed a collection of new and upcoming games coming to PS5 and PS VR2, including Ghost of Yotei, the newly announced sequel to 2020’s Ghost of Tsushima. Ghost of Yotei isn’t a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, but don’t let that put you off. You can still get the original game on PS4, PS5, or more recently released PC portthen trust that Sucker Punch will do wonders again in the next game.

Sucker Punch confirmed that the game will be released in 2025, but the studio did not give a specific release date.

The recently announced Ghost of Yotei is not a true sequel, and that’s perfectly normal.

While the game isn’t a true sequel, it is a continuation of Sucker Punch’s Ghost series. The game replaces the main character of the first game, Jin Sakai, with a new protagonist, Atsu. And for good reason. Ghost of Yotei takes place several hundred years after the story events of Ghost of Tsushima. As the name suggests, Ghost of Yotei also takes place in a new setting. The game will still take place in Japan. However, it is located much further northeast of Tsushima Island in the Ezo region, known today as Hokkaido, and that’s where you’ll find Mount Yotei.

The game is also set in the 1600s, specifically 1603. This would put the game at the very beginning of the Edo period in Japan. And it’s possible that this fact will somehow find its way into the narrative. Having said that, sucker Punch isn’t sharing many details about the game at the moment. Nothing about the narrative has been mentioned. The studio is showing a trailer that is a mix of cinematics and gameplay footage.

Based on the size of Ezo (Hokkaido) compared to Tsushima and other parts of Japan, we expect the game’s map to be at least as large, if not larger, than Ghost of Tsushima. Additionally, the game features several new gameplay mechanics. Sucker Punch says the game is being built from the ground up PS5This means we’re definitely going to see some stuff. PS5 Pro features To be abused.

Get ready for new combat mechanics, new weapons, and more

While the trailer doesn’t offer much information, you can pick out some details about the new gameplay mechanics. There will be new types of weapons to use, and certainly new combat tactics or abilities that come with them. A big part of Ghost of Tsushima’s combat was the ability to unlock various abilities through different sword stances. There were also various “Ghost” abilities that were geared more towards stealth combat.

In Ghost of Yotei, Atsu is given some brilliant new ways to fight enemies. The two most obvious additions are the ability to dual-wield katanas and the kusarigama. At the end of the trailer, we also briefly see Atsu wielding some sort of rifle. We also see Atsu carrying a Shamisen on his back, which I expect is used in some way to conceal another set of weapons at his disposal. However, it’s likely that this is used as a new instrument to manipulate the weather. Similar to Jin Sakai’s use of a flute in Ghost of Tsushima.
