Terence Winter Shares Details About Gotham City PD THE BATMAN Spinoff Series Cancellation — GeekTyrant

Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos) was previously working on developing a spin-off series Batman this would be focused Gotham City Police Department.

With the series now off the air, Winter is now sharing some details about the story the series was going to tell and explaining why it was eventually cancelled.

When the series was first announced, it was explained that the series would “build on the film that examines the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City and launch a new Batman universe across multiple platforms.”

“The series will expand on the world established in the film and further explore the diversity of Gotham’s complex characters.”

Winter was developing the series with Matt Reeves and was speaking to The Playlist about what the series would entail. Podcasts worth watching“The idea was to do a detective series set in the 1970s,” he said.

“I felt something like this Sidney Lumet 1981 crime and detective drama Prince of the Citybut in the Gotham City Police Department. It would give a (70s) feel.

“This would be the present-day cop who is like the third generation cop of Gotham City, and Gotham City is massively corrupt. And this is the guy in the present day who realizes he’s on the wrong side.

“Batman was someone who lived in that world, but you never really saw him. And it was really all about the police department and kind of this guy.”

Winter explained that Reeves “just didn’t feel anything” while developing the series, and as a result, Winter left the project, which was eventually cancelled.

When Penguin When the subject of the series came up in conversation, Winter said: “It’s great, it’s good for them. Like I said, you know, it was Matt’s idea initially and, you know, I wish him more power. Sometimes you’re creatively compatible; sometimes you’re not.

“Or you get sidetracked by thinking, ‘We should do this, but you know what, it doesn’t really work.’ Also, because Gothamshow Gotham It definitely took place in the Gotham City Police Department.

“(It) kind of stepped on our idea, even though ours is completely different. I think Penguin “It’s great. I think they did a great job.”

They seem to be developing an interesting GCPD series and it’s a shame that it’s working out.
