PS5 is coming with an exciting new indie game in late 2024

For me, this is one of the highlights of the year. We’ve seen the popularity of village builders grow over the years, but in my opinion Aghasba Towers does something unique with the balance between ecosystem and village building. As a young architect tasked with rebuilding the Shimu civilization, there is a constant balance between choosing to build a settlement to achieve human advancement using your special seeds or creating a lush fauna to sustain that life.

Different biomes lead to different outcomes — do you want the unique flora and fauna associated with that area? If you build a village there, you might be able to live better than somewhere else, but you’ll lose resources. Then, on top of that, you need to take responsibility for what you build by protecting it in the future.

The island will be ours to explore as we craft, build, and adventure. From these early trailers, I’m getting an almost surreal look at the naturally stylized fantasy world of Aghasba. That art direction highlights the strangeness of a creature or piece of environment brilliantly. With up to three playable friends, it looks like this could be a bit of a social moment for the end of 2024, if it finds its feet.

I don’t want to put too much pressure on the game before it goes into early access, but the raw materials we’re seeing… Aghasba Towers really promising. Just her beauty alone makes her seem like one of the most unique PS5 open world games There’s a lot going on in the environment, but it’s the smaller elements like the gameplay loop that feel immediately engaging.

There’s both a sense of verticality and engaging action, with those weird glider mechanics and cool-looking bow and arrow combat. I have a few qualms about crafting, as I find it poorly implemented in games that mix multiple gameplay systems. There’s nothing worse than crafting a legendary sword using a million materials, only to find one on the ground from a dead villager five seconds later.
